my university is essentially robbing me and my life is falling apart

I’m a mixed gay black & pinoy person who’s literally just trying to make a life for themselves living with their girlfriend and the people they love. my life is pretty much falling apart. 

i’m embarrassed to have to do this once again, but this was a conflict of 7 months that has FINALLY come to surface

In July of 2017, I applied for a job through my university’s hiring website. This website finds, filters and posts jobs in the area that students are capable of working while they go to school. Most of these include service work or working within the university itself.

Unfortunately, after being “hired” by them in early August, this job, unlike the other’s I had applied for beforehand, turned out to be a scam disguised as service work similar to Americorps. This scam left me around $600 dollars in debt to my bank.

My University REFUSED to take responsibility for my exposure to the scam on their supposedly trustworthy job listing website. The police haven’t contacted me since the report. I had to scramble to use my savings and credit to help get me back on track, because I had also JUST moved into my new apartment at the time.  I fell behind on my payments because I had to pay rent and feed myself while trying to be a person.

I had graduated, but I haven’t received my diploma because of this.

I continued to pay them, but very little and none of it really helped. The collections unit has also been sending warnings to an old address of mine, so I wasn’t aware of the deadline I had to have it in full.

When they garnish my paycheck, I will have little to survive on. There’s not much I can do at this point but ask for help. Please. I can offer compensation such as art commissions or lewds/nudes if that’s up your alley. I’m using ko-fi.

My court date is tomorrow, February 27th. I now have $1403.26 / $4231.25. My wages will be garnished 10 days after the  DOJ.

Again, I don’t expect much and I’m sorry if this is annoying, but if everyone who reblogged this were able to contribute even a little I wouldn’t be reblogging this now. Please help. This “deadline” is soon, but people can continue to contribute after my court date. However, the sooner I pay the collection agency in a lump sum. If you wondered why I haven’t sought out a Pro-Bono lawyer, please read this post! My debt is with the collections agency, not the organization responsible for my exposure to the scam.

My hearing has passed, there’s been a continuance for March 27th because they sent my summons to the wrong address (message me if you want the proof!) so I thankfully still have an exact month’s time left to pay it all back without being garnished.
